DENVER (September 14, 2023) – Visionary auteur Martin Scorsese’s definitive 1978 concert film “The Last Waltz” returns to theaters nationwide this fall, as Fathom Events presents a pair of special screenings on Sunday, November 5 at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm local time.

While the event was planned for theaters prior to Robbie Robertson’s passing, it’s a perfect way to honor a musician’s musician. Each screening will include an exclusive introduction from Robertson, as he narrates a quick look into the genesis and impact of Martin Scorsese’s “The Last Waltz,” the concert film that changed the genre forever. With his unique perspective as a member of The Band and a constant Scorsese collaborator, Robertson unveils the untold stories and emotions that made this legendary farewell concert a monumental moment in music history.

Originally filmed at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco on Thanksgiving Day, 1976,“The Last Waltz” captures the final performance of legendary rockers The Band, as they take the stage to perform a slate of iconic songs joined by an impressive roster of famous friends and fellow legends. Though they initially rose to prominence as the backing band for music trailblazers Ronnie Hawkins and Bob Dylan, “The Last Waltz” brings The Band to the forefront as Scorsese expertly weaves intimate footage of members Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, and Rick Danko recounting their incredible story in their own words between rollicking renditions of enduring hits such as “Don’t Do It,” “Up On Cripple Creek,” “The Weight,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” and many more.

In addition to The Band, “The Last Waltz” boasts appearances and performances by music superstars Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, Muddy Waters, The Staples, Ringo Starr, Ron Wood, Dr. John, Paul Butterfield and Ronnie Hawkins. While Scorsese has helmed several acclaimed music films throughout his career, “The Last Waltz” is widely considered to be not only his best, but also one of the greatest concert films ever made, due to its innovative style and cultural significance as a perfect time capsule preserving one of music’s most important eras.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at Fathom Events or at participating theater box offices. For a complete list of theater locations, visit the Fathom Events website (theater locations are subject to change).

Additionally, The Last Waltz gets the 45th anniversary treatment with a 3LP audiophile pressing, available this October through Rhino, in-store only, at your local record store, while supplies last!

Martin Scorsese and Robbie Robertson’s final collaboration, Apple Original Films’ Killers of the Flower Moon, will also premiere globally in-theaters on October 20.
