Every four years, the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition brings the world's best pianists to Fort Worth, TX to compete for the coveted Cliburn gold medal. For the first time in its history, the seventeen day competition will culminate on the big screen with concerto performances by six finalists with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Leonard Slatkin.

The Boston Globe once called The Cliburn “a cross between the Miss America Pageant, the Olympic Games, the Academy Awards, and the Pulitzer Prize.”

Established in 1962 in honor of Van Cliburn, the Cliburn Competition is widely recognized as one of the world’s highest-visibility classical music contests. It launches the careers of its winners as international touring artists and shares the transformative powers of music with a wide global audience.

Leonard Slatkin

Internationally acclaimed conductor Leonard Slatkin is music director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre National de Lyon. His over 100 recordings have earned 7 Grammy awards and 64 nominations. He is a Chevalier in the French Legion of Honor and winner of the National Medal of Arts.

Van Cliburn (1934–2013) was one of the most persuasive ambassadors of American culture and one of the greatest pianists in history. With his 1958 victory at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, at the height of the Cold War, he tore down cultural barriers and transcended politics.
