The stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000® are back in select cinemas nationwide on Thursday, August 15th for only one night in a hilarious never-before-seen take on the king of modern campy sci-fi epics: Starship Troopers.
Join Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett of RiffTrax.com on Thursday, August 15th LIVE at 8:00pm ET / 7:00pm CT and taped-delayed to 7:00pm MT/ 8:00pm PT for a hilarious riff on this masterpiece of alien slaughter propaganda! This one-night event will be your only chance to see the guys fire their wisecracking commentary at Starship Troopers on the big screen.
This classic 1997 giant-bug-alien war flick is an adaptation of Robert Heinlein’s classic 1950s giant-bug-alien war novel of the same name, but with bigger, juicier bugs. Director Paul Verhoeven brings the same insane glee to the screen as he did for the classics RoboCop and the original Total Recall, making Starship Troopers perfect for a live riff.
Starship Troopers is the tale of young trooper Johnny Rico, played by the impossibly handsome Casper Van Dien, star of this and...well, Starship Troopers 3, mostly. He’s joined by the impossibly darling Denise Richards, who plays plucky pilotess Lieutenant Carmen Ibanez. Together they go pretty much straight from their high school prom into the galaxy-wide gooey mess that is the Bug-pocalypse. They’re joined by the impossibly nice guy Neil Patrick Harris, who is amazingly easy to believe as an intelligence officer with psychic abilities that help him communicate with the giant bug aliens. Throw in Michael Ironside, because duh, it’s a war movie, you’re gonna need Michael Ironside, and Jake Busey, because duh, he just showed up on set and wouldn’t leave, add a love triangle, heaps of alien splatter, and you’ve got the great sprawling high-energy madness that is Starship Troopers!
